About Marcat Dance
Marcat Dance is the artistic home for award-winning Spanish Choreographer Mario Bermudez Gil and American co-founder Catherine Coury. The Spain-based company is dedicated to sharing their creativity and joy of movement through performance, creation, and teaching opportunities around the world. Marcat Dance believes in the power of the imagination, creative risk-taking, and continuous research towards dynamic physicality. Marcat Dance connects to the human spirit and finds inspiration from world cultures, rituals, and landscapes.
Since it’s founding in 2016, the company has performed and taught at renowned venues and festivals across the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and America including Festival Italica (Spain), Jacob’s Pillow (USA), Vanguard Body (China), Festival Prisma (Panama), and Inbal Theater (Israel). Marcat Dance has an expansive repertory including three evening length works, two half evening length works, and eight short pieces that have received First Prize in Choreography from four different international choreographic competitions including Certamen Internacional de Coreografia Burgos - Nueva York (2019), Festival Internacional de Danza Masdanza (2018), and Certamen Coreografico Distrito de Tetuan Madrid (2017); and have received production prizes from Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition (2018) and Copenhagen International Choreography Competition (2016).
Marcat Dance has received generous support through creative residencies at ACASA Scenario Pubblico in Sicily (2020), The Croft Residency (2018), Centro de Danza Canal in Madrid, Spain (2017), Dancers Workshop in Jackson Hole, Wyoming (2017) and ongoing support from Teatro Miguel Hernandez in Vilches, Jaen (2016-Present). The Company regularly teaches at prestigious venues including Ballet Preljocaj in Aix-en-Provence, France; The National Dance Company of Wales, UK; Wee Dance Company in Gorlitz, Germany; and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, USA among others. In 2018 Marcat Dance launched University of Michigan’s first ever study abroad program for the Department of Dance.
Mario Bermudez Gil
Mario Bermudez Gil, Artistic Director and Choreographer of Marcat Dance, is a prolific creator who has developed a recognizable movement language known for its dynamic physicality and long-lasting emotional impact. His highly acclaimed works and commissions are performed by Marcat Dance as well as other leading dance companies around the world including the National Dance Company of Spain, the National Dance Company of Wales, Flamenco Star Eva Yerbabuena, Hung Dance Taiwan, Nuovo Balleto di Toscana BDT, and Scapino Ballet Rotterdam.
Prior to Marcat Dance, Mario was a company member of Tel Aviv based Batsheva Dance Company (2012-2016). With Batsheva he performed work by Ohad Naharin, Sharon Eyal, Hofesh Shechter, and Roy Assaf, and danced in prestigious theaters around the world including the Opera National de Paris (Paris, France), Brooklyn Academy of Music (Brooklyn, NY), and The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (Washington, D.C.). From 2010-2012 Mario was based in New York City and danced with Andrea Miller’s Gallim Dance and Jennifer Muller/The Works. His training began at age 20 when he studied at Centro Andaluz de Danza in Sevilla, Spain from 2008-2010.

Catherine Coury
Catherine Coury is a performer and the creative assistant of Choreographer Mario Bermudez Gil, co-founder and manager of Marcat Dance, as well as a Gaga Teacher (Movement language of Ohad Naharin/Batsheva Dance Company) and Ilan Lev Practitioner. In 2019 Catherine was awarded “Best Dancer” from Certamen Coreografico Distrito de Tetuan, Madrid. Dedicated to dance education, Catherine frequently teaches at conservatories, universities, and companies around the world and in 2019 launched the first ever Study Abroad Program for the University of Michigan (USA) in Spain in partnership with Marcat Dance.
Prior to Marcat Dance, Catherine lived and worked in New York City for five years freelancing with choreographers Shen Wei, Shannon Gillen, Andrea Miller, and Loni Landon. As a performer she toured internationally in venues including the Lincoln Center (NYC), Art Basel (Miami), Festival de Danse (Cannes), and Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Theatre (Moscow), among others. As a dance administrator, Catherine played an integral role in the development of Andrea Miller’s Gallim Dance and The Playground NYC. A native of Detroit, Michigan, Catherine received her BFA from the University of Michigan.

VIM VIGOR is a physical dance theater company under the artistic direction of Shannon Gillen. Founded as a collaborative think tank, VIM VIGOR is home to innovative and profoundly gifted artists from around the world who have come together to create original, cutting edge dance theater. VIM is dedicated to elevating and nurturing the professional lives of young dance artists through its education platform with ongoing classes, workshops and annual winter and summer intensives in NYC.
Since it’s founding in 2015, VIM has performed and taught at renowned venues and festivals across the USA, Europe, Canada, Central America, and South America including Festival Prisma (Panama), Revuelo (Chile), DANCEworks (US), Perry Mansfield (US), Lewis Center for the Arts (US), Playwrights Horizons (US), Springboard Danse Festival (CA), b12 Festival (Berlin, DE); and has upcoming performances with de Danseurs in (NL) and Arts Umbrella in (CA). SHANNON GILLEN
Called ‘mesmerizing’ by VOGUE and championed as ‘vastly gifted’ by Deborah Jowitt, Shannon Gillen has had an extensive career as a dancer and choreographer in NYC and Europe. She was a member of the Johannes Wieland company based at Staatstheater Kassel in Germany; won commissions from Mainfranken Theater Würzburg, the International Solo-Tanz Theater Festival in Stuttgart (3rd prize dance), the TIF theater in Kassel, and was also selected as a THINK BIG choreographer-in-residence at Staatsoper Hannover.
Upon returning to the states, Shannon founded VIM VIGOR as the home for her collaborative choreographic and educational endeavors. Her work has been commissioned across the USA, Canada, Central America, South America and Europe. Additional projects include commissions by fashion label PHELAN for NY Fashion Week, DANCEworks at the Lobero Theatre, Hubbard Street 2, Gibney Dance Company Boston Dance Theater and de Danseurs in NL; notable festivals and venues where her work has been seen include NYLA, Prisma Festival, Judson Church, PULSE Art Fair/Art Basel, Bryant Park, NYC's River to River festival, The Joyce, and Jacob’s Pillow. In 2018, Shannon was a choreographer in residence at the Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton and this year she has premieres at the ICA in Boston, UNCSA, Rutgers University, Gibney Dance, Over het lj in the Netherlands and will return to create new work at Springboard Danse in Montreal and at the b12 Festival in Berlin.
Dedicated to educating the next generation of artists, Gillen has created a physical dance theater education platform in NYC with VIM VIGOR, with annual winter and summer programming. She is a graduate of The Juilliard School and earned her MFA from Tisch School of the Arts at NYU.

JASON CIANCIULLI
Jason is a founding member and co-choreographer of VIM VIGOR, and joined the company in his last year of studies at SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance. Since receiving his BFA he has taught at many institutions on behalf of VIM VIGOR, including The Juilliard School, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, the University of Michigan, Barnard College, Columbia University and Booker T. Washington Performing Arts High School. Additionally he has collaborated with Shannon Gillen on creations for LA Dance Project, Gibney Dance Company, Boston Dance Theater and Springboard Danse Montreal. Jason performs in Sleep No More with PunchDrunk NYC and will be teaching with Gillen at SUNY Purchase and Princeton University this year.

Stephanie Miracle is an independent choreographer and teaching artist with one foot in Europe and the other in the USA. She holds an MFA from the University of Maryland and a BA in Dance from Belhaven University. She was a 2014/15 Fulbright Fellow researching the embodied practice of tanztheater in Germany. She became a certified teacher of Klein Technique™ in 2017 and has taught Klein Workshops Germany, Turkey, Ireland, Russia, NYC, and Los Angeles. As a performer she has worked with Deborah Hay, Shannon Gillen, David Dorfman, Susan Marshall, PWDT, Rodolpho Leoni, and Henrietta Horn. Her recent choreographic projects have been presented in UniTANZ (IT), Open Look Festival St. Petersburg, (RU); Performatica (MX), ES WIRD SOGAR SCHÖN (DE), SzoloDuo Festival (HU), Fiktiva Festival (DE), kunstOrteleven (DE), PS21 Chatham (NY), Dance Place (DC), Yeltsin Center, (RU), Ruhrfestspiel Recklinghausen (DE), Companhia de Danca da Almada (PT), Dingle Dance Festival (IE), and ÇATI Çağdaş Dans (TU). She has been an artist in residence at Keshet Arts, Omi International, kunstOrt_eleven and Socrates Sculpture Park. Her dance films have been shown at Lincoln Center Dance for Camera, EnCore: Dance on Film, Reutlingen Museum, Iowa International Dance Festival, and RAD Dance Fest. She is the director of the live-cinema public performance experiment Fakers Club and was the guest choreographer for Folkwang Tanzstudio's 2018/19 season. Her full evening work wilderness tender was recently described as “sixty minutes of pure pleasure” (Ruhrzeitung 2019). In January 2020 Santa Barbara Dance Theater will premiere Miracle's commissioned work 1221 Primrose Ln. She is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa.
CHRISTINA ROBSON / PERFORMER + CHOREOGRAPHER / FORMER BILL T. JONES COMPANY MEMBER
Christina Robson is a Brooklyn based performer, educator and maker. She has been a performer with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company since 2015 and teaches on faculty at Gibney Dance Center. Christina has collaborated and performed internationally with David Dorfman Dance, The Sean Curran Company, Monica Bill Barnes & Company, Alexandra Beller/Dances, Third Rail Projects, Heidi Henderson, Jinju Song Begin, Kendra Portier, Raja Feather Kelly and others. In addition to making and presenting solo work in the NYC area, Christina has choreographed for, NYU/Tisch, Joffrey Summer Intensive, Barnard, Hartt School, SUNY Purchase, Roger Wiliams University, Lindenwood University and The Wooden floor. She is currently working towards her MFA at The University of Maryland.
KILEY DOLAWAY / VIM VIGOR / DANCER / COLLABORATOR
Kiley Dolaway was born and raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA. She studied ballet and modern dance at Philadelphia Dance Theatre then attended high school and studied dance at The University of North Carolina School of the Arts under the direction of Susan Jaffe. She recently graduated in May of 2018 from the Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College with a BFA in dance performance. During her time at Purchase, she performed repertory by Shannon Gillen, Kevin Wynn, Manuel Vignoulle, Sidra Bell, and Merce Cunningham. Additionally, she was invited to dance at Springboard Danse Montreal in the summers of 2017 and 2018 where she performed in the restaging of 'Paper Cuts in an Empty Bag' by Peter Chu and ‘Neither Here|There’ a new creation by Johannes Wieland. In 2018, Kiley also premiered in Shannon Gillen's 'SUPERBLOOM' at the 92nd Street before joining VIM VIGOR as a company member. Since then she has assisted Gillen at The Juilliard School, SUNY Purchase, NYU Tisch, and Fordham Ailey. She has supported Shannon Gillen's creations at L.A. Dance Project, b12 festival in Berlin, Princeton University, Boston Dance Theater, and Booker T. Washington School for the Arts. In 2019, she will debut in VIM’s latest creation FOREVER in NYC, before traveling with Gillen to teach and create at LINK 2019 in Salt Lake City, Perry Mansfield's Summer Program, Springboard Danse Montreal, Springboard X, and VIM VIGOR's Summer Program in NYC.
MARIJA OBRADOVIC / VIM VIGOR / DANCER / COLLABORATOR
Marija Obradovic grew up in Belgrade, Serbia. She began her dance training with the guidance of Svetlana Djurovic, the director and choreographer of Perpetuum Dance company, with whom she worked for seven years. The company performed nationally, and internationally on festivals in Jordan and Philippines. In 2015 Marija relocated to New York, where she had worked with JinJu Song Begin Da -On Dance and Soluq Dance Theater. She is also alumni of Springboard Danse Montreal and currently performs in Punchdrunk's production Sleep No More in NYC. Additionally, Marija holds a BA in Psychology from University of Belgrade. This past year she assisted Gillen on commissions at Barnard College, The Juilliard School, the b12 Festival in Berlin and supported workshops for New Dialect in Nashville. Marija joined VIM VIGOR as a company member in 2018.
JESSICA SMITH / VIM VIGOR / DANCER / COLLABORATOR
Jessica Smith, a native of New Orleans, is a graduate of the Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College. Growing up, Jessica trained as a competitive gymnast as well as attending the performing arts high school, New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. In her third year at Purchase College, she studied abroad at London Contemporary Dance School. Jessica is now entering her third season with ZviDance, second season with Kizuna Dance and first season with VIM VIGOR. She is currently the Associate Director of the non-profit arts organization Arts On Site. She continues to research and show her own work throughout New York City while collaborating with many people she's met along the way.
BRANDON COLEMAN / VIM VIGOR / DANCER / COLLABORATOR
Brandon Coleman is a NYC based performer from Katy, TX and is a graduate of the University of Arizona, where he received his BFA in Dance and BA in Communication with a minor in Arts Administration. While in school, Brandon received the prestigious Undergraduate Creative Achievement Award for performance and choreography. He attended Springboard Danse Montréal in 2016 and 2017 and received additional training from River North Dance Chicago and KEIGWIN + COMPANY.
Coleman toured throughout China with Art.If.Act Dance Project, assisted Sam Watson at the Tanz Bozen- Bolzano Danza International dance festival in Bolzano, Italy, and performed as a guest artist with Zikr Dance Ensemble in Denver, CO. Formerly a member of Visceral Dance Chicago , Coleman has also worked with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago as a guest artist for their 2017 Summer Series. Since moving to NYC in 2017, Brandon has danced with KEIGWIN + COMPANY, the Metropolitan Opera ballet, and is currently a performer at SLEEP NO MORE. Brandon joined VIM VIGOR in 2019.
NATALIE BORDER / VIM VIGOR / DANCER / COLLABORATOR
A Utah native, Natalie trained and worked professionally as a dancer in Salt Lake City. She holds a B.F.A. from the University of Utah where she was a part of the honor society, Orchesis. Natalie performed as a guest artist with Rire-Woodbury and with the Performing Dance Company in works by Andrea Miller of Gallim and Sharee Lane. She has also worked with other gifted artists such as Loni Landon, Darrell Grand Moultrie, Scott Wells, and LajaMartin among others. Upon graduating, she was invited to dance in Northwest Dance Project’s Launch program, guested in Repertory Dance Theater’s Emerge show, and produced her own show, Nomad. Natalie was recently a company member of SALT Contemporary Dance and performed works by Dan Higgins, Satu Hummasti and Daniel Clifton, and Penny Saunders. Natalie joined VIM VIGOR in 2019.
DAVA HUESCA / VIM VIGOR / APPRENTICE DANCER / COLLABORATOR
Originally from Virginia, Dava moved to New York City and began her serious dance training at Fiorello LaGuardia Arts High School. In 2015 she graduated Salutatorian of the Dance Department and won the “Desire Keras Dancer from the Heart” award. While in high school, Dava was also apart of the Peridance Youth Ensemble, and had the opportunity to work with distinguished choreographers such as: Manuel Vignoulle, The Limon company, Sidra Bell, Stefanie Batten Bland, Igal Perry, etc. Dava graduated Magna Cum Laude from SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance in 2019. At SUNY Purchase she performed works by Rena Butler, Hannah Gardner, and Sidra Bell. Additionally, Dava has performed works abroad. In 2017, she worked with Maxine Doyle in Berlin, Germany, performing “Bric Brac a Baby” at Dock 11. Summer of 2018 and 2019, she was accepted into Springboard Danse Montreal and performed works by VIM VIGOR, MAZE dance company, Johannes Weiland, and Vanessa Goodman. Post graduation, Dava was invited to perform works by Stacyee Pearl Dance Company in Pittsburgh. Dava is now an apprentice at VIM VIGOR.
Stephanie Miracle is an independent choreographer and teaching artist with one foot in Europe and the other in the USA. She holds an MFA from the University of Maryland and a BA in Dance from Belhaven University. She was a 2014/15 Fulbright Fellow researching the embodied practice of tanztheater in Germany. She became a certified teacher of Klein Technique™ in 2017 and has taught Klein Workshops Germany, Turkey, Ireland, Russia, NYC, and Los Angeles. As a performer she has worked with Deborah Hay, Shannon Gillen, David Dorfman, Susan Marshall, PWDT, Rodolpho Leoni, and Henrietta Horn. Her recent choreographic projects have been presented in UniTANZ (IT), Open Look Festival St. Petersburg, (RU); Performatica (MX), ES WIRD SOGAR SCHÖN (DE), SzoloDuo Festival (HU), Fiktiva Festival (DE), kunstOrteleven (DE), PS21 Chatham (NY), Dance Place (DC), Yeltsin Center, (RU), Ruhrfestspiel Recklinghausen (DE), Companhia de Danca da Almada (PT), Dingle Dance Festival (IE), and ÇATI Çağdaş Dans (TU). She has been an artist in residence at Keshet Arts, Omi International, kunstOrt_eleven and Socrates Sculpture Park. Her dance films have been shown at Lincoln Center Dance for Camera, EnCore: Dance on Film, Reutlingen Museum, Iowa International Dance Festival, and RAD Dance Fest. She is the director of the live-cinema public performance experiment Fakers Club and was the guest choreographer for Folkwang Tanzstudio's 2018/19 season. Her full evening work wilderness tender was recently described as “sixty minutes of pure pleasure” (Ruhrzeitung 2019). In January 2020 Santa Barbara Dance Theater will premiere Miracle's commissioned work 1221 Primrose Ln. She is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa.

Christina Robson is a Brooklyn based performer, educator and maker. She has been a performer with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company since 2015 and teaches on faculty at Gibney Dance Center. Christina has collaborated and performed internationally with David Dorfman Dance, The Sean Curran Company, Monica Bill Barnes & Company, Alexandra Beller/Dances, Third Rail Projects, Heidi Henderson, Jinju Song Begin, Kendra Portier, Raja Feather Kelly and others. In addition to making and presenting solo work in the NYC area, Christina has choreographed for, NYU/Tisch, Joffrey Summer Intensive, Barnard, Hartt School, SUNY Purchase, Roger Wiliams University, Lindenwood University and The Wooden floor. She is currently working towards her MFA at The University of Maryland.
KILEY DOLAWAY / VIM VIGOR / DANCER / COLLABORATOR
Kiley Dolaway was born and raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA. She studied ballet and modern dance at Philadelphia Dance Theatre then attended high school and studied dance at The University of North Carolina School of the Arts under the direction of Susan Jaffe. She recently graduated in May of 2018 from the Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College with a BFA in dance performance. During her time at Purchase, she performed repertory by Shannon Gillen, Kevin Wynn, Manuel Vignoulle, Sidra Bell, and Merce Cunningham. Additionally, she was invited to dance at Springboard Danse Montreal in the summers of 2017 and 2018 where she performed in the restaging of 'Paper Cuts in an Empty Bag' by Peter Chu and ‘Neither Here|There’ a new creation by Johannes Wieland. In 2018, Kiley also premiered in Shannon Gillen's 'SUPERBLOOM' at the 92nd Street before joining VIM VIGOR as a company member. Since then she has assisted Gillen at The Juilliard School, SUNY Purchase, NYU Tisch, and Fordham Ailey. She has supported Shannon Gillen's creations at L.A. Dance Project, b12 festival in Berlin, Princeton University, Boston Dance Theater, and Booker T. Washington School for the Arts. In 2019, she will debut in VIM’s latest creation FOREVER in NYC, before traveling with Gillen to teach and create at LINK 2019 in Salt Lake City, Perry Mansfield's Summer Program, Springboard Danse Montreal, Springboard X, and VIM VIGOR's Summer Program in NYC.
MARIJA OBRADOVIC / VIM VIGOR / DANCER / COLLABORATOR
Marija Obradovic grew up in Belgrade, Serbia. She began her dance training with the guidance of Svetlana Djurovic, the director and choreographer of Perpetuum Dance company, with whom she worked for seven years. The company performed nationally, and internationally on festivals in Jordan and Philippines. In 2015 Marija relocated to New York, where she had worked with JinJu Song Begin Da -On Dance and Soluq Dance Theater. She is also alumni of Springboard Danse Montreal and currently performs in Punchdrunk's production Sleep No More in NYC. Additionally, Marija holds a BA in Psychology from University of Belgrade. This past year she assisted Gillen on commissions at Barnard College, The Juilliard School, the b12 Festival in Berlin and supported workshops for New Dialect in Nashville. Marija joined VIM VIGOR as a company member in 2018.

Jessica Smith, a native of New Orleans, is a graduate of the Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College. Growing up, Jessica trained as a competitive gymnast as well as attending the performing arts high school, New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. In her third year at Purchase College, she studied abroad at London Contemporary Dance School. Jessica is now entering her third season with ZviDance, second season with Kizuna Dance and first season with VIM VIGOR. She is currently the Associate Director of the non-profit arts organization Arts On Site. She continues to research and show her own work throughout New York City while collaborating with many people she's met along the way.
BRANDON COLEMAN / VIM VIGOR / DANCER / COLLABORATOR
Brandon Coleman is a NYC based performer from Katy, TX and is a graduate of the University of Arizona, where he received his BFA in Dance and BA in Communication with a minor in Arts Administration. While in school, Brandon received the prestigious Undergraduate Creative Achievement Award for performance and choreography. He attended Springboard Danse Montréal in 2016 and 2017 and received additional training from River North Dance Chicago and KEIGWIN + COMPANY.
Coleman toured throughout China with Art.If.Act Dance Project, assisted Sam Watson at the Tanz Bozen- Bolzano Danza International dance festival in Bolzano, Italy, and performed as a guest artist with Zikr Dance Ensemble in Denver, CO. Formerly a member of Visceral Dance Chicago , Coleman has also worked with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago as a guest artist for their 2017 Summer Series. Since moving to NYC in 2017, Brandon has danced with KEIGWIN + COMPANY, the Metropolitan Opera ballet, and is currently a performer at SLEEP NO MORE. Brandon joined VIM VIGOR in 2019.
NATALIE BORDER / VIM VIGOR / DANCER / COLLABORATOR
A Utah native, Natalie trained and worked professionally as a dancer in Salt Lake City. She holds a B.F.A. from the University of Utah where she was a part of the honor society, Orchesis. Natalie performed as a guest artist with Rire-Woodbury and with the Performing Dance Company in works by Andrea Miller of Gallim and Sharee Lane. She has also worked with other gifted artists such as Loni Landon, Darrell Grand Moultrie, Scott Wells, and LajaMartin among others. Upon graduating, she was invited to dance in Northwest Dance Project’s Launch program, guested in Repertory Dance Theater’s Emerge show, and produced her own show, Nomad. Natalie was recently a company member of SALT Contemporary Dance and performed works by Dan Higgins, Satu Hummasti and Daniel Clifton, and Penny Saunders. Natalie joined VIM VIGOR in 2019.

Originally from Virginia, Dava moved to New York City and began her serious dance training at Fiorello LaGuardia Arts High School. In 2015 she graduated Salutatorian of the Dance Department and won the “Desire Keras Dancer from the Heart” award. While in high school, Dava was also apart of the Peridance Youth Ensemble, and had the opportunity to work with distinguished choreographers such as: Manuel Vignoulle, The Limon company, Sidra Bell, Stefanie Batten Bland, Igal Perry, etc. Dava graduated Magna Cum Laude from SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance in 2019. At SUNY Purchase she performed works by Rena Butler, Hannah Gardner, and Sidra Bell. Additionally, Dava has performed works abroad. In 2017, she worked with Maxine Doyle in Berlin, Germany, performing “Bric Brac a Baby” at Dock 11.
